In the Spring of 2015, I was set to go on two vacations 10 days apart. One to Hawaii for a birthday party and another on a Caribbean Cruise with 8 of my best friends. As I like to write music inspired by my travels, I thought it would be a fun project to commit to making a Caribbean themed EP. Of course I have to include a track inspired by Hawaii. On the cruise we ported at 8 Eastern Caribbean islands. Between entertainers on the cruise and at ports on the islands I was able to draw much inspiration for this EP. I had a chance to interview some performers and ask them what constitutes Caribbean music. One of my first major introductions to the culture where the allure of it really kicked in for me was in the summer of 2000, and 2001. There was a business in Stratford called Johnny's Caribbean Hut. Johnny was from Trinidad. He served Caribbean food from a Gazebo beside the police station and had a great patio. He introduced me to Roti, Jamaican Patties and Guava Juice for the first time. During the grand opening, he featured a steel drum band. It was a great place to eat and relax in the summer. People would loiter on his patio most of the day. It was a great two summers before he returned home. The album title pays homage to those days and imagines going on a great journey to find him and business to relive those glorious days of summer.
