Karaleigh met Nathan McKay while he was on vacation in Nashville in 2017. She was a sound person at a cafe. She was testing the main speakers in the venue playing some neo soul jazz fusion type music. Nathan exclaimed, "What is this!!!!" as it caught his attention. She said Hiatus Kaiyote. This is dope, have you heard of BadBadNotGood, she said it was the next artist on her playlist. The two quickly had this bonding moment. Nathan 10 minutes later asked if Karaleigh wanted to record a song in this vein. She agreed. The next day the two recorded Make Me Feel. The song originally appeared on Nathan's 2017 album Glow and Chill. It was reworked to be included on High in The Clouds. The two recorded 11 demos in which 7 songs made the debut EP. The EP explores chill jams, wonky hip hop, jazz fusion, neo soul, and alternative house.
