about

I had just arrived in Nepal. My guitar sustained the abuse of rocking around in a guitar case on an airplane for two days. When I opened the case, the guitar was quite out of tune. I often will challenge myself to write in any tuning presented. I played a harmonic minor passage, using the whammy bar, I bent through the notes to try to emulate quarter tones. I lived beside a recording studio called Studio 4 One. I took the track there and hired a tabla player to play on it. He said in 25 years of professional music, he had heard nothing like it before. He was at a loss of how to approach the song. I said, play from the heart...whatever happens, happens. This is the result. The song is named for the new elevation I was experiencing being in Kathmandu as suggested to me by Bill Tuford, my roommate at the guest house I was staying at.
