about

This track is one of my most experimental and provides an interesting culture clash. It is like a Japanese Caribana song. I focused on some Japanese percussion and wrote with the sound of a Shamisen, a traditional Japanese three stringed lute with a square body played with a large plectrum. In it there is a tropical swing feeling dub step break and some glitches that give an overall Caribbean feel. I had been to Caribana in Toronto and some of the rhythms I saw there are coming out in this song in the form of some glitchy micro funk bass shots. I wrote this while drinking a wheat ale at Molly Bloom's. I showed it to the owner, Rob Wigan when I was done. He told me that it sounded like Bonobo. I check that artist out when I got home and found that my style was akin to theirs with the inclusion of global sounds and electronic music.
