about

The creation of this song forever marks a strange and funny memory for me. This song is the second song for which I created in a public space at night in which I got pulled over by the police wondering what the hell I was doing. The first time was time this happened, I was sitting on a curb near my house working on a Hip Hop beat and an officer pulled up to question me explaining that apparently one of my neighbours called the cops concerned thinking I was twitching out on drugs, when in actuality I was bobbing my head to the boom bap of the beat. On this second occasion, for this song, it was a warm night in July and I chose to compose this song around midnight on the window ledge at the bank of Montreal. There is a little alcove there where I could lay out my gear. I know I had a lap top and some glowing midi equipment and that it might have looked like I was doing some high tech reconnaissance for a bank robbery, but I was actually composing a big band Jazz Fusion song with some Latin percussion. The Latin rhythms made me dance a little, and yes I know dancing in public while writing this at midnight, again it might have looked like I was a druggie twitching and robbing a bank, but the officer who stopped me, was soon delighted when she discovered that I was doing something positive and constructive with my time. She laughed and expressed she was glad that is was not what she suspected it might be. I hope she gets a copy of this album. Thanks for leaving me be to finish the song. This song was influenced by the album Burning for Buddy a tribute to Buddy Rich, one of my favourite modern big band albums.
