This song is part of my future Blues project. I was projecting that in the future, as more Chinese immigrate to North America, that it is only a matter of time before they embrace the blues. I did the solo on a Guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument. Jessica Stewart of the band Jessica Stewart Few plays a Koto, a cousin to the Guzheng. I wrote this with her in mind. I had seen her the year before at Monforte in Stratford doing Jazz Fusion show with her Koto. Her productions only affirmed to me it was ok to blend Asian with North American music culture. I had been a fan of Guzheng and Erhu from several of the kung fu movies I had seen in my life without knowing what the instruments were. Colin Fisher bought a Guzheng and formally introduced me to the instrument around 2008. I have since then become obsessed with the idea of Chinese fusion music. There is a girl on youtube I saw 6 months after writing this song that did a Stevie Ray Vaughan cover on the Korean equivalent to the Guzheng called the Gayageum. I hope there is more of this kind of stuff in the future. Check out her Youtube page at Luna Gayageum.
