about

The inspiration for this song was a major highlight on my trip. We had travelled to a place nick named "The Monkey Temple" to see some monkeys. We didn't see any there to our disappointment, so we hailed a taxi and said just drive up the mountain. After 20 minutes, we could drive no further. Asking why, the Taxi driver said this is Buddhist Monk territory. We saw a set of stair leading to the Buddhist temple. We asked if it were ok if we took a hike up there and he waited for us. He agreed. I invited him to come up and he said "no". After a 10 min hike up the stairs we came to the top and I saw something I never expected to see in my life. A group of over 20 monks fully dressed in their shrouds were playing volleyball. We laughed and did out best to introduce ourselves. Soon we looked back and we saw the taxi driver. He decided to join us after all. Without speaking Nepali and using sign language we somehow go in on the game. It was a lot of fun. The inspiring moment came when I looked 50 ft away and saw a swarm of over a 1000 Dragon Flies doing what I call a dance from side to side. As if there were an invisible wall between the swarm and the game, the swarm did not interfere with game. I was used to seeing say 30 Dragon Flies at Algonquin or something to that degree, but never over a 1000, let alone moving in an organized fashion atop a mountain. It was so beautiful. This song tries to capture that dance and that moment with the monks. It is again inspired by Bruce Cockburn's techniques. Enjoy.
